This is one of the original Tell Me A Ghost Story calls from the early days of the show. Short, raw, and exactly where it all started. All three of these calls were later incorporated into longer compilation episodes with full host commentary if you want the complete experience.
Hey, it's Michelle, and this early episode has three true ghost stories that each involve a moment of waking up to something that should not be there. A door that was closed when you fell asleep standing open. An angel who told a five-year-old it was okay before she understood what it meant. And a mattress replaced by an endless pit of fire, with everyone sleeping above it completely unaware.
Yamari from Pennsylvania calls in with a true ghost story that has a witness. She and her boyfriend went to bed normally with the bedroom door closed as always. In the night, she experienced what felt like waking but could not move, could not scream, and could not get her boyfriend's attention. The door opened, and three black figures entered the room, moving around both of them with their focus on her. She closed her eyes and woke fully in a panic attack. The door was open. Her daughters were asleep in their rooms. There are no animals in the house. The door had been closed when she fell asleep. It has never happened again, but she still gets chills when she is alone in that room.
An anonymous listener calls in with a true spiritual encounter that did not reveal its meaning until years after it happened. When they were five or six, they had a dream in which they were in distress and an angel appeared, a glowing figure with wings that reminded them of the Statue of Liberty, who said it's okay. Life was good at the time, and the dream made no immediate sense. Years later, in middle school, a period of severe anxiety and genuine suffering, they were standing inside a Catholic church when it suddenly made complete sense. The angel had not been speaking about that moment as a five-year-old. It had been speaking about middle school. The message arrived a decade early and waited.
Erica from San Diego returns with her third call to Tell Me A Ghost Story, and this one goes back to the very beginning of her life. She was five or six years old and growing up in a home defined by physical abuse and toxic relationships between her parents. She had always felt and seen paranormal activity in the duplex her family lived in, faces and creatures emerging from the stucco walls of her bedroom at night. But the experience she called in about is the one she has never been able to explain or rationalize in the decades since. She woke up in her parents' bed, where they had let her sleep between them. When she opened her eyes, the mattress was gone. Beneath her father, herself, and her mother was an endless dark trench of fire, flames rising upward toward them as they floated above it, still sleeping. She looked left. She looked right. Her parents were completely undisturbed. She was five years old, floating above a pit of fire, and she was the only one who could see it. She remembers what her parents were wearing that night. The memory has never changed. She does not think she imagined it.
Three real callers. Three true ghost stories about waking up to something that had no right to be there. This is where Tell Me A Ghost Story began.

[00:00:06] I would see what looked like creatures or little people making faces and moving, but they were not, they were in the wall. They were literally like images that would pop up in the ducco.
[00:00:34] Welcome to Tell Me A Ghost Story, the late night call-in podcast where we delve into the world of the supernatural and explore the eerie and unexplained.
[00:00:46] I'm your host, Michelle Newman. This podcast features true stories from our callers that will send shivers down your spine
[00:00:57] and leave you questioning the existence of the afterlife.
[00:01:02] So grab a cozy blanket, turn down the lights.
[00:01:09] Hello, this is Yamari from Pennsylvania.
[00:01:11] So the last house that I lived in, this happened to me, and I have a witness.
[00:01:18] My boyfriend was sleeping next to me. You know, we went to bed all normal, all fine. You know, we closed the doors.
[00:01:27] I fell asleep, and in my dream, I just remember waking up and sitting in my room, I keep still.
[00:01:33] The door opened, and three black pictures came around me, including, like, around where my boyfriend was at.
[00:01:48] But the focus was on me.
[00:01:50] I remember trying to move, trying to, you know, trying to scream, trying to wake up, trying to acknowledge, trying to get my boyfriend's attention.
[00:02:00] You know, nothing. I then closed my eyes, and I woke up, and I was able to move.
[00:02:07] I woke up in a panic attack.
[00:02:10] So I say sleep paralysis dreams because I have told people this, but the crazy part is that my door was actually open.
[00:02:20] And in my state of panic, thinking, like, maybe my daughters came to come wake me up or something, they were both asleep.
[00:02:26] I don't have animals, and we always sleep at the door closed.
[00:02:31] So that is where the spooky aspect comes in for me, because the door was opened.
[00:02:38] And I remember shutting my door before going to sleep.
[00:02:43] It has never happened since then, but I do get chills here and there when I'm in my room alone because of that night.
[00:02:57] Thank you, Yamari, for your story.
[00:03:01] Hey, Michelle, this is, well, I'd like to remain anonymous, but here's my story.
[00:03:11] When I was five or six, I had a dream that I was sorrowing for some reason.
[00:03:20] I was in distress.
[00:03:22] And then this angel, stereotypical angel.
[00:03:28] When you think of an angel, that's what I saw.
[00:03:31] Like, kind of reminded me of the Statue of Liberty for some reason.
[00:03:36] That kind of clothing, that kind of figure.
[00:03:39] Glowing wings.
[00:03:43] The angel went up to me and said, it's okay.
[00:03:47] The funny thing is, my life was amazing at the time.
[00:03:53] That was what felt like the prom of my life, which is really, really funny.
[00:03:58] Because, you know, I've had a lot more life than just that little bit.
[00:04:05] But, in middle school, I was having a terrible time.
[00:04:10] Like, I cannot tell you how crap that was for me.
[00:04:15] Because, you know, that's when I started anxiety medication.
[00:04:19] It was a crazy time for me.
[00:04:23] So, after that, everything just kind of clicked.
[00:04:26] Like, oh my God.
[00:04:28] That dream, that angel, was talking about middle school.
[00:04:33] And it happened in a Catholic church, too.
[00:04:37] It clicked when I was standing inside of a Catholic church.
[00:04:41] So, that's kind of like a religious, spiritual story.
[00:04:45] That I think is really, really crazy.
[00:04:50] Thank you for calling in, Anonymous.
[00:04:53] Hi, Michelle.
[00:04:57] This is Erica calling back again from San Diego, California with another story.
[00:05:03] So, this story actually happened when I was a toddler.
[00:05:10] I'd say five or six years old.
[00:05:13] I really want to believe it was one of my very earliest memories of childhood.
[00:05:22] I should start with a little bit of background about my family.
[00:05:27] My parents were young adults.
[00:05:33] 17, 18.
[00:05:35] When they became pregnant and had me.
[00:05:41] And needless to say, they were a toxic couple from the start.
[00:05:49] And as the years progressed in my parents' marriage, my father became more and more abusive with my mother, with myself.
[00:06:04] Just a lot of physical abuse.
[00:06:06] A lot of negativity surrounding my family for many, many years of my childhood.
[00:06:10] As far back as I can remember.
[00:06:13] And I only preference that because that negative energy was definitely drawing this paranormal activity that I experienced.
[00:06:35] So, when I was about five or six years old, we lived in a duplex.
[00:06:41] So, it was like a big house that the owner had made into two separate homes.
[00:06:46] But you could tell that this house used to be one property at some point before they started to do the renovations.
[00:06:55] And then my family moved in.
[00:06:58] I always felt a lot of paranormal activity and witnessed a lot of paranormal activity in that house.
[00:07:08] And they are, like I mentioned, some of my very earliest memories as a child.
[00:07:13] I used to, at nighttime, not be able to sleep.
[00:07:18] Staring at the wall of my room while I was laying on my side bed.
[00:07:24] And I would actually see faces coming out of the stucco of our walls in my room.
[00:07:34] I would see what looked like creatures or little people making faces and moving.
[00:07:48] But they were not, they were in the wall.
[00:07:52] They were literally like images that would pop up in the stucco.
[00:07:56] I even remember telling myself that I must be having a bad dream.
[00:08:01] Just close your eyes and open them and it'll be gone.
[00:08:05] And many times that wouldn't work.
[00:08:11] Well, there was this one specific time where I experienced something that I'll never forget.
[00:08:21] One day, I remember, again, I was about five or six years old and my parents were sleeping in their bed.
[00:08:28] And I used to, like most children, wake up from my sleep early in the morning or in the middle of the night
[00:08:35] and go to my parents' bed to sleep with them because I didn't want to be alone.
[00:08:40] And they let me.
[00:08:41] They would allow me in their bed.
[00:08:43] I would sleep either between my parents most of the time or next to my mom.
[00:08:49] So, this one time though, I remember my parents put me in between them and proceeded to fall back asleep.
[00:08:57] And I also fell asleep shortly after getting into bed with them.
[00:09:04] Well, I remember suddenly I woke up from my sleep.
[00:09:11] And I was laying on my stomach in my parents' bed.
[00:09:14] And when I opened my eyes, because I was waking up from a sleep,
[00:09:24] I looked down toward the mattress that I was laying on with my parents.
[00:09:33] And the mattress was gone.
[00:09:36] And it was my father, myself, and my mother laying in this king-sized bed.
[00:09:45] And I could see that the mattress, instead of being there,
[00:09:53] was almost like an endless pit of fire.
[00:09:59] Like an endless dark trench that had fire and flame coming upward towards us.
[00:10:06] And I was terrified.
[00:10:09] And we were just floating above it, the three of us.
[00:10:13] Just the same way we were when we were laying in bed.
[00:10:17] And I remember thinking to myself as a five or six-year-old,
[00:10:21] like, am I dreaming right now?
[00:10:24] And I looked to my left, I looked to my right, and my parents are still sound asleep.
[00:10:29] They were unfazed by what I was seeing.
[00:10:34] It was just the weirdest thing.
[00:10:36] I don't remember really how I managed to, you know, fall back asleep
[00:10:44] and realize that I was back in my parents' bed.
[00:10:52] I have since experienced other paranormal incidents.
[00:10:58] Honestly, none as terrifying as that one.
[00:11:03] Because it's just so vivid in my mind, I can remember every little detail.
[00:11:10] I can even remember what my mom was wearing, what my dad was wearing in bed.
[00:11:19] And I just, to this day, I can't make sense of it.
[00:11:24] I keep trying to ration it out to maybe I was just imagining things as a kid.
[00:11:33] But those memories have never changed.
[00:11:36] They've always stayed the same.
[00:11:38] So I am inclined to believe that what I saw was actually there.
[00:11:44] I actually witnessed it.
[00:11:50] Thank you, Erica from San Diego, for calling in again with your story.
[00:11:56] That's all we have this week, folks.
