This is one of the original Tell Me A Ghost Story calls from the early days of the show. Short, raw, and exactly where it all started. These calls were later incorporated into a longer compilation episode with full host commentary if you want the complete experience.
Hey, it's Michelle, and this early episode has two real paranormal encounters that sit at opposite ends of the supernatural spectrum. One is ancient and terrifying and rooted in Indigenous tradition. One is quiet and strange and connected to a man who apparently never left the house he loved. Both of them are real.
Nicole from Wilcox, Arizona, calls in with a skinwalker encounter on her property that converted her husband from a lifelong skeptic into a believer in a single moment. Skinwalkers are among the most feared supernatural entities in Navajo tradition, shapeshifting figures associated with witchcraft and malevolent intent whose name many practitioners of that tradition will not speak aloud. Nicole heard a voice on her property that was imitating her daughter. Not approximating. Not resembling. Imitating, with the specific accuracy that makes skinwalker encounters so deeply disturbing to anyone who has experienced one. Her husband heard it too. He has not been skeptical since.
Then Lauren from Austin, Texas, calls in with a real ghost encounter of a completely different register. A black orb appeared to her while she was visiting her boyfriend's house, a presence connected to the spirit of the man who had owned the home before and who apparently had not finished being there. Spirit orbs are one of the most debated phenomena in paranormal research, and Michelle walks through the genuine differences between dust particles caught on camera and the kind of intentional, focused presence that Lauren encountered, the kind that moves with purpose and appears in response to being acknowledged.
Two real callers. Two true paranormal stories from two completely different corners of the supernatural world. A skinwalker in the Arizona desert and a spirit orb in a house in Austin that its previous owner never entirely left. This is where Tell Me A Ghost Story began.

[00:00:02] Welcome to Tell Me A Ghost Story. The late night call in podcast where we delve into the world of the supernatural and explore the eerie and unexplained. I'm your host, Michelle Newman. This podcast features true stories from our callers that will send shivers down your
[00:00:32] spine and leave you questioning the existence of the afterlife. So grab a cozy blanket, turn down the lights. Hi, my name is Nicole. I am from Wilcox, Arizona. And I live on a property with a skinwalker. I've had several encounters with this thing.
[00:01:09] My oldest daughter has had multiple encounters with this thing, um, my animals. I'll tell you my most recent story. I was coming home from the grocery store. It wasn't even really dark yet. It was just right after sunset and I could hear something in the bushes.
[00:01:37] And my dog was next to me, so I didn't really think anything of it. We've got a lot of rabbits. But my dog kind of got very quiet, which is odd. We live on property with cattle and a lot of other animals. So he's active and not quiet.
[00:01:59] You know, I hear my daughter's voice, my youngest daughter's voice crying from the bushes, screaming mom. And it just kind of kept getting louder and I could hear footsteps. And luckily I made it up my porch to the door and made it inside.
[00:02:24] And my husband has never believed me, but this thing decided to keep scratching at the door and screaming help in our youngest daughter's voice. And that's what made him finally believe me. Thanks. Thank you, Nicole. Where was your youngest daughter at the time?
[00:02:48] I'm assuming she was standing next to your husband in the house. Those are the type of things I don't know enough about. And frankly, from what I do know, I prefer it that way. Next message. My name is Lauren. I'm from Austin, Texas.
[00:03:07] But this story actually happened in Mainer, Texas. I used to date this guy that lived in a house where one of the original homeowners had passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack in the living room.
[00:03:21] And he was renting one of the rooms in there along with two other roommates. And I had heard stories about them experiencing little things here and there, but nothing definitive that I'd seen personally with my own eyes or anything like that.
[00:03:41] And then one day I remember my boyfriend and I were on the phone together and he was sitting in his room and he was using the Xbox One game console. And he was using the infrared camera mode that basically showed the infrared camera back at the player.
[00:04:00] And he was saying how he saw a solid black orb when he was using the infrared mode and it was just going all over the room and just very unusual. And I was just like, okay, you know, again, I didn't witness it personally.
[00:04:15] So I kind of just thought he was being dramatic or something. And then a few days later I went to his house and we were in his room and he wanted to show me because I guess he thought that I would, I didn't believe him fully.
[00:04:29] I'm not sure. And we turned on the infrared mode. And sure enough, there was nothing in the room that was as pitch black as this perfectly spherical little orb, only one. And the way that it moved, it was not a dust particle. It was not anything else.
[00:04:47] It literally moved like if it had purpose or life or something like it would, it would, you know, change speeds. It would dart in and out of the sliding closet doors. It would, you know, hover above us going on.
[00:05:00] It was like nothing I've ever seen before or after in my entire life. I know a lot of people came to see like spirit orbs and things like that. And it just was like something floating mindlessly through a camera or in front
[00:05:13] of a camera, but this is not how that was. And I've looked online to see if I could ever find anything that even came close than that anybody else has witnessed. And I never have ever. And it's not anything that was like particularly like crazy, but I'm 100
[00:05:28] percent sure that like whatever I saw was paranormal. And I have never been able to say that about anything ever since then or before then, so it's pretty unusual. Thank you, Lauren, for your story. I did some digging about orbs for the listeners.
[00:05:54] I used to be a photographer, too. So spirit orbs I've always found kind of fascinating. And so I just wanted to know how to tell the difference between dust and a spirit orb. And this is what I found. Number one, your intuitive senses.
[00:06:10] Often your intuition is the best at determining whether a spirit energy is present, which is true. The body does know. Number two, the brighter and more dense the orb appears, the more likely it is to be a spirit, the lighter and fuzzier the orb, the more likely
[00:06:26] it is to just be a dust particle. Number three, spirit orbs may have an outer ring or several rings within the orb. Number four, the color. Dust particles are usually just one color, whereas spirit orbs can appear to be many colors. Granted, there's no exact science to this.
[00:06:46] I also found descriptions of what each color of orb mean. Orbs that appear to be white, silver, yellowish, translucent are generally considered spirits that are trying to communicate with you. Green orbs may indicate nature spirits or that healing energy is present.
[00:07:04] Blue orbs are very protective and could also indicate an apparent guardian angel, but darker orbs that appear blackish or brown, like in Lauren's case, can apparently indicate a lower vibrational stuck soul. That's all we have this week, folks. Do you have a ghost story? Call 701-484-2666.
