Tonight's task: Counting Sheep

Stand by an old wooden gate as sixty sheep come in from the pasture at sunset. Count them one by one as they pass through, each one calm and unhurried. 35 minutes of intentionally boring, peaceful narration to help you fall asleep. Perfect for insomnia, racing thoughts, anxiety, or simply unwinding after a long day.

Like all our episodes, this is intentionally repetitive and boring, giving your mind something peaceful to focus on while your body relaxes into sleep. Most listeners never make it to the end.

Waringdasks firstly. Broad to you by Newman Media. You're standing by an old wooden gate. The air is cool but pleasant. There's a light breeze, just enough to rustle. The grass in front of you stretches a wide pasture, rolling green hills, a few scattered trees, and sheep, dozens of them, white shapes, dotting the landscape, grazing peacefully. It's time to bring them in for the evening. You open the gate, creaks slightly on its hinges. The gate swings wide in the distance. One of the sheep lifts its head, sees the open gate, starts walking towards you. The others will follow, they always do. One by one. They'll make their way through the gate, and you'll count each one. The first sheep reaches the gate, it's a you medium sized, white wool that's slightly dusty from the day in the pasture. She pauses at the gate for just a moment, looks at you with calm, dark eyes, then steps through. One One sheep counted. You make a small mark on the notepad. You're holding one line. One sheep. The ue walks past you, heading toward the barn in the distance. You turn your attention back to the pasture. Another sheep is approaching. This one is larger, with wool that's freshly, thick, unhurried, steady. It reaches the gate steps through two sheep counted. Two marks on your notepad. The sheep follows the first one toward the barn. A third sheep is coming now. This one is smaller, perhaps younger, white wool, clean and fluffy. It trots a bit faster than the others. Eager perhaps through the gate. Three sheep. Three marks. The rhythm is establishing itself. Now sheep approach. Sheep passed through you count you mark simple, peaceful. The fourth sheep arrives another you, this one with a small gray patch on her left ear. You recognize her. She's been in this flock for years. Through the gate she goes four counted. The sun is warm on your shoulders. The breeze continues its gentle movement through the grass. Sheep number five approaches, white wool, medium build walking steadily through the gate. Five. Number six is close behind. They're starting to come more regularly now, a steady stream. This one is fluffier than the others. Six marks on your notepad. You can see more sheep in the distance, all slowly making their way toward you. There's no rush, They'll all get here eventually. Sheep seven arrives. This one stops briefly to nibble some grass near the gate, then thinks better of it and steps through. Seven. Number eight white and fluffy through the gate. Number nine a large ram, this time bigger than the ewes, with thick curved horns. He moves slowly, deliberately through the gate. Sheep ten another u average size, calm expression through ten. Ten sheep counted. You're one sixth of the way through the flock. The farmer mentioned there were about sixty sheep in this pasture today, sixty to count, plenty of time. Number eleven approaches white wool with a tiny bit of mud. Twelve arrives. This one is particularly fluffy wool, freshly grown. Thirteen average sized, ye, calm and steady through fourteen, smaller sheep, probably young, quick steps through. You notice the light is getting warmer, more golden. The sun is lower now evening is settling over the pasture. The sheep continue their steady procession. Fifteen comes through, white and clean. Sixteen. This one has a small ear tag, yellow with a number. You can't quite read through the gate seventeen larger sheep, thick wool, steady pace. Eighteen medium sized white with very clean wool. Nineteen Another yu she pauses briefly to look back at the pasture, then continues through. Twenty A nice round number. Twenty sheep counted twenty marks on your notepad. You're about a third of the way through. The sheep continue coming. The rhythm is soothing. Now watch the sheep approach, watch it pass through the gate, count mark, Wait for the next one, over and over. Twenty one arrives, white and fluffy twenty two. This one is walking alongside another sheep. They come through together, but you count them separately. First one, twenty two, twenty three. The marks are accumulating on your notepad, little lines, each one representing a sheep safely counted. Twenty four medium sized you twenty five, smaller sheep with particularly fluffy wool, twenty six, large sheep, steady walker, twenty seven, white wool, calm demeanor. Twenty eight. This one has a bit of burr caught in its wool, but it doesn't seem to notice. Twenty nine another ram thick horns, powerful build thirty halfway through. Now thirty sheep have passed through the gate. Thirty marks on your notepad. The sun is touching the horizon now the light is even warmer, almost orange. Long shadows stretch across the pasture. The sheep are dark silhouettes against the golden grass, moving steadily towards you. Thirty one medium sized thirty two fluffy white wool thirty three. This one stops briefly to shake its whole body wiggling, then continues through thirty four calm and steady thirty five, white and clean thirty six, larger sheep thick wool thirty seven, medium sized U. Thirty eight. This one is following close behind. They come through one after another thirty eight thirty nine forty two thirds complete, forty sheep counted. The flock in the pasture is noticeably smaller now. Most have already pass through. Forty one white wool, steady pace forty two. This one has very expressive eyes, looks right at you as it passes. Forty three smaller sheep quick steps forty four, medium build fluffy forty five, large ram impressive horns forty six clean white wool forty seven. This one bleats softly as it passes, a quiet sound forty eight calm and peaceful, forty nine almost to fifty white and fluffy forty nine fifty The sky is dimming. The sun has set below the horizon, leaving just its glow. The sheep continue their procession. Fifty one medium sized ye fifty two white wool, slightly dusty fifty three. This one walks slowly, taking its time. Fifty four fluffy and white, fifty five large sheep, steady fifty six clean wool, calm expression fifty seven. This one is one of the last stragglers, taking its time in the pasture. Fifty eight white and fluffy. Nine and finally the last sheep, number sixty. It's been grazing in the far corner of the pasture, taking its time, but now it's here, walking toward the gate. You wait patiently. It reaches the gate, looks around one last time, then steps through. Sixty sixty sheep counted. You make the final mark on your notepad. Sixty lines, sixty sheep all safe, all heading to the barn for the evening. You close the gate. It swings shut with that same familiar creek. You latch it secure the evening air is cool now. The sky is deepening to twilight. Stars are beginning to appear. The day's work is done. Inside the farmhouse, a light glows in the way window, warm and welcoming. But you pause for a moment outside, looking back at the barn, at the sheep settling in for the night. Everything is calm, everything is peaceful, Everything is exactly as it should be.
